Homemade Orange Jam
I have still remembered my grandmother's homemade jam and how it was tasty till now. She used to make it every winter where the season of the bitter orange, or as we call it " Lemon Shifshei". There was an orange tree in my grandparents' yard, and our job was to climb up the tree and collect all the oranges. That tree was a place of my childish plays.
The homemade orange jam was an annual tradition in our family, so I could say that I was a lucky grandchild because I had that delicious dish every year.
"Made with love" I have always heard this sentence, however, I have lately understood that it has belonged to our grandparents or those who prepared what we love because they care about us.
Unfortunately, the tree has been cut, and my grandmother has passed away. Thus, I miss the feeling of those old things, so I have decided to make an orange jam by myself.
Furthermore, I started to search for that specific kind of fruit, it was not easy because most of the citizens have cut their orange trees. Anyway, I found it and it is time to make the jam. I insisted to know the original recipe, so I asked my mother.
Regarding the recipe, I was so happy for applying every step of it, from removing the whole white peel to putting sugar on the mix. It took me a day to prepare and few hours to cook. I could letterly bring back memories when I smelled and tasted my jam.
Actually, I am the kind of person who has nostalgia, especially for the period of my childhood. This makes me looking for what seems original or unique because I can feel life through it.
To make homemade orange jam, all what we need is:
- Bitter orange
- Sugar
We peel the orange and remove all the white peel and seeds.
We put what has been left from the orange and its juice in a deep bowl and add the sugar, depends on the amount of the mix, approximately 4 oranges take 8 cups of sugar and leave it in the bowl for a whole night.
Finally, we cook the mix at a lower temperature for a maximum of 4 hours. Then after chilling, it will be ready to eat.
